What is the Helium network used for?

The network is used by low power, long range IoT devices such as scooters, sensors for temperature, humidity and parking lots sensors. GPS asset trackers are also commonly used on the Helium network.

How does the selection process work?

We carry out our selection process on a regular basis and do not apply any priority order based on waiting time. You will be notified with a text and email if you got selected to become a Galiot host. We are not able to answer questions regarding where in the process your application is. We review each application based on the following criteria: density of Hotspots in your area, elevation and if you have access to an attic or roof for an antenna solution.

My Hotspot is offline. What should I do?

First and foremost make sure your Hotspot has a stable power source. All Hotspots have lights which turn on when plugged in correctly, RAK uses a small red light and SyncroB.it uses a band of LED's. After this you can try reconnecting your device to the internet, either using wifi via the Helium app or an ethernet cable. You can check the online/offline status after a few hours using the helisum-dashboard link we sent you and SyncroB.it Hotspots also glow green when online. If the problem persists even after trying these steps a few times, please contact the Galiot Team.

How can I improve my Hotspot's earnings?

Make sure your Hotspot is at the highest possible elevation with the clearest possible view of the surrounding area and check that your antenna is correctly mounted to its port. Another important step is to solve "Hotspot Relayed" (see below) and to make sure your internet connection is stable.

What does Hotspot Relayed mean?

If a Hotspot is relayed, it means its internet connection is being relayed through another Hotspot on the Network, which can negatively affect mining and earnings.

The relay status is being exacerbated as the Network grows, which means the relay from Hotspot to Hotspot grows exponentially and its effects are more pronounced now than when the Network was smaller. How much will I earn from having a Hotspot at home on a monthly basis?

We can't predict earnings on each Hotspot since it depends on different factors such as the number of Hotspots in your area, elevation and clear view as well as the HNT stock exchange. Some hosts earn almost 10.000 SEK per month others around 600 SEK per month.

How does the referral program work?

For every person you refer and we accept you will receive an additional 10 percent earning on that persons Hotspot for one month starting from when the Hotspot is deployed. You will receive the earnings together with your quarterly payment from us.

Will I benefit from having several Hotspots at home?

You will not benefit from having more than one Hotspot in the same household. It needs to be at least 300 meter distance between two hotspots otherwise they will take away from each others earnings.

When do I receive my payout?

We handle payouts quarterly, at the latest on the 15th of the month after each quarter (January, April, July and October). It is your responsibility to hand in correct payment details no later than 7 days beforehand. If we have not received your details within the given time frame, we will postpone your payout until the next quarter.

Who is responsible for tax accounting and declaration?

As a host you are responsible for paying your taxes although Galiot will provide you with information and you if you have any questions.

What about internet security?

The Hotspot is securely connected to your wifi and internet to provide backhaul to the Hotspot for blockchain peer-to-peer and LongFi networking. No other traffic is allowed to your local network through a hotspot.

What about radiation from the Hotspot?

The wireless signals from a Hotspot is completely harmless. They radiate 1000 times less than a GSM/4G base station and about 10 times less than your wifi at home.

What happens if I move from the address I’m hosting a Hotspot at /or will host at?

Each Hotspot is asserted to the specific address you applied with. If you are about to move to another address please contact us in advance @ hello@galiot.io and we will take action from there.
